This sideboard dates from around 1920 and was made in the Hebei Province in Northern China. It has a storage compartment at the top accessed by the two central lattice work doors, two drawers, separating this from the largest compartment at the bottom, accessed by four doors. It has recently been reconditioned in an artisan workshop in Beijing with a green painted finish, rubbed back to show areas of the undercoat and wood beneath. It was originally used as kitchen storage, but would equally at hoe in a living room or bedroom. The simple shape is complemented by the intricate lattice work and other details of this handsome piece.
