This low vintage table was made from poplar in Shanxi Province of Northern China and dates from circa 1950s.
It has recently been lightly restored in an artisan workshop in rural Beijing. To match the imperfections of the aged wood, it has been painted green and then rubbed back in places to allow some the natural wood grain to show through. The 'winged' wood panels give it extra stability and a rustic vintage look that brings a lovely sense of times past to a contemporary interior.
