This special vintage sideboard comes from the Northern Chinese province of Xinjiang, home to the Uighur people. Their traditional Islamic craft comes through in the detailed geometric carving seen on these items. Dating from circa 1920, it has recently been lightly reconditioned in an artisan workshop in Beijing where its original features and paintwork have been retained. The distressed finish shows some areas of the pine as well as the original teal.
Four small doors to the front of the piece open to reveal a neat storage compartment. Across the front panels, doors, and apron the piece is wonderfully decorated with detailed lattice carving and to the sides with ornate wooden scrolls. This decorative carving and the piece's bohemian, distressed appearance make it a magical and whimsical addition to any room scene. Because of its neat dimensions and decorative nature this cabinet makes an excellent tidy for smaller spaces. Ideal as a low hallway unit, blanket box, or toy store in a nursery.
Dimensions: 189(w) x 40(d) x 61(h) cm
