This beautiful display cabinet comes from the Qinghai region in China and dates from circa 1920. This unusual, open-faced cabinet would have traditionally been a devotional piece where family members kept images of ancestors, deities and incense.
The piece features beautiful organic wooden carvings along the top aprons and two small panels featuring delicately faded images of Lotus flowers. Lotus flowers symbolize beauty and purity and would have played an important role in the devotiona nature of this item.
