This beautifully painted cabinet was made in Tibet around 1900. It was made from pine and is decorated with symbols from Tibetan Buddhism. This type of furniture was made for monasteries and the decoration served the purpose of teaching and to aid with meditation. There are two pairs of central doors opening onto two storage areas running the width the cabinet. Above these are two open niches.
Even if one does not know about the symbolic meaning of the decoration, which was designed to foster the development of a clear and cheerful mind, this piece will make a very special, uplifting contribution to a contemporary home.
Dimensions: 100(w) x 32(d) x 148(d) cm
