This vintage poplar cabinet comes from Gansu Province in China and dates from circa 1960. It has two doors and one inner removable shelf. The sides and top are unpainted, showing the poplar wood used in its construction. The front frame has much of the original black paint. The doors have a typical design from Gansu of peony flowers against a yellow background surrounded by a rich red. The apron below has a painting of leaves against green. It has recently been restored in an artisan workshop in Beijing.
