This vintage cabinet comes from Gansu Province in Northern China and dates from circa 1920. It has recently been reconditioned in an artisan workshop in Beijing with a distressed pale green painted finish. The doors are decorated with a faded motif of peony flowers and butterflies. In Chinese visual art, peonies are traditionally associated with wealth and rank, and butterflies can symbolise longevity. Inside a new removable shelf has been added. We think the simple design of this cabinet would add a lovely bohemian touch to a modern home.
Dimensions: 99(w) x 46(d) x 87(h) cm
