This vintage poplar sideboard was made in Gansu Province in China around 1920. It has four doors opening onto the storage compartment with one removable shelf. The front frame, sides and top have worn black paint showing areas of the poplar wood beneath. The doors have a typical design from Gansu with flowers against a yellow background surrounded by a strong red. Beneath is a turquoise apron with flowering branches. It has recently been restored in an artisan workshop in Beijing, retaining the faded soft colours.
Materials: poplar with brass fittings
Dimensions: 181(w) x 42(d) x 87(h) cm
