This vintage cabinet was made in Shandong Province of Northern China and dates from circa 1920. It has recently been restored in an artisan workshop in the Beijing area, when it was repainted in layers of red and rubbed back to reveal small areas of the wood grain beneath giving the piece a beautifully patinated appearance. It is finished with a high gloss varnish. Its two doors are mounted on wooden hinges and underneath the doors sit four drawers. The main storage compartment has been fitted with a newly made a removable shelf. The doors have a central brass togetherness plate which can be secured with a brass pin (not shown).
Materials: elm with brass fittings
