In this visible mending workshop, you’ll explore hand-sewing techniques on how to repair holes and torn parts in your jumpers, a thinned-out heel of a sock, or how to cover a stain on your favourite shirt using a darning mushroom or embroidery hoop. Scotch darning and chain stitching work well on knitted garments, and the classic darning technique gives a natural finish to the mend in your woven fabrics.
You’ll learn the history of darning, why it’s important in terms of sustainability, and what technique is right for the desired outcome of your repair.
Please bring along any damaged items that you would like to discuss and work on throughout the session. Darning materials will be provided along with some refreshments and a calming cup of tea.
This in-depth session is built up on the ‘Introduction of Visible Mending Workshop’ but you don’t need any prior sewing experience to join.

Nadien K. - Wild Clothes Alchemy was born from a desire to create a sense that each of us can contribute to positive change, a sense of value, and empowerment. With her work, Nadien wants to showcase the nuances of handmade, crafted for the individual, weaving together the history and memories of garments and fabrics. She connects people, and clothes in creative sewing workshops, and re-works garments from already existing materials to break the hegemony of sameness, challenging the system of fast fashion and helping people to work towards a more sustainable wardrobe.
