This enchanting statue of a young Buddhist monk, or perhaps novitiate, is cast in brass using the lost-wax process. He is holding out his alms bowl, one of very few possessions deemed necessary for the monastic life.
The institution of monks (Bhikkus) and nuns (Bhikkunis) is one of the essential institutions in Buddhism. They are viewed as responsible for teaching and preserving the principles of Buddhist teachings and guiding the followers of Buddhism towards the path of enlightenment, and so perform an important role in Buddhism.
It measures 17.5(w) x 12(d) x 30(h) cm approximately and weighs about 3.2Kg.
