This unusual small cabinet dates from around 1900 and was made in the Gansu Province of Northern China. The two doors in the middle can be open with hanging leaf brass handles. The inside extends across the full width of the piece, behind the fixed external panels with round cutouts. Additional storage space is available in the two drawers underneath the main compartment. The cabinet has been restored in an artisan workshop in rural Beijing and been given a distressed finish of cream paint over black that has been sanded back in places to reveal the original wood colour and sealed with a high gloss varnish. It can bring a lovely relaxed vibe to a room, offering storage and a place to display a beautiful object on top. Its small size makes it quite versatile; as it may fill an awkward corner with interest or pull together a landing in a stair case.
Dimensions: 73cm (w) x 35cm (d) x 50cm (h)
