This head of the Buddha was hand carved from a dark brown stone in China. This head is carved with short curly hair which shows that the Prince Siddhartha had cut off of his topknot, as an act of renunciation of his privileged past. The protuberance on top the head, known as the Ushnisha, represents the attainment of the Buddha’s enlightenment. The half-closed eyes show his state of meditation and the half smile depict the serenity and nobility of the Buddha.
It is approximately 13cm in diameter and about 21.5cm high and weighs about 5kg.
