Originating in the Dongbei Province of Northern China, this pine sideboard dates around 1920. It has been restored retaining the original painted motifs of flowers, fruit, birds and butterflies depicted as gold outlines against a rich russet background. Typical of this Province, the main paintings are bordered with delicate geometric and natural motifs.
A part of the restoration is the addition of a removable inner shelf, making the storage compartment more flexible. This compartment extends below the door openings, providing more space than be apparent. The rich warm colour with faded details make this a statement piece for the home.
