This beautiful cabinet is from Xinjiang Province, a region in Northwest region of China, where the Uyghur people live. The style of their furniture is closer to Turkish than to those of the rest of Northern China. The geometric pattern carved into the wood on the front and doors is typical of this region. The original colourful painting can been seen with traces of the white, red, blue, yellow, green and orange in the corners of the carving. This piece dates from circa 1920. It has recently been lightly restored in an artisan workshop near Beijing.
