This cabinet comes from NingBo near Shanghai in China and dates from circa 1920. Between the four doors on the upper half and the two shelves with sliding doors at the bottom sits a row of three drawers. The cabinet was originally used in the kitchen to store dishes and well-aired food supplies, hence the intricate fretwork on the front to allow good airflow. Its beautifully irregular dark green finish and the highly ornamental lattice make this cabinet a very special statement piece.
