This vintage Chinese cabinet was made in Shanxi Province in Northern China and dates from circa 1940. It has three drawers and two doors, which access one large internal storage space, divided by a single removable shelf. The front, sides and top have been finished with a blue topcoat, in places rubbed back to reveal the cream undercoat and natural elm wood beneath. This finish helps to bring out the underlying texture of the grain of elm and is inspired by traditional Northern Chinese furniture finishing techniques. This has all been sealed with a gloss varnish, making it smooth to the touch.
Its gentle colour scheme make it a versatile fit for many contemporary interiors, where it will add unusual textured interest.
Dimensions: 110cm (w) x 40cm (d) x 85cm (h)
Material: elm with brass fittings
