This vintage cabinet comes from Shanxi Province in Northern China and dates from around 1920. It has recently been reconditioned in an artisan workshop in Beijing, where it was repainted with a yellow and green. This colour was then rubbed back to show areas of the undercoat and the original red paint beneath. The two sets of doors both depict fragments of the original floral artworks. This faded beauty and distressed paintwork give the whole piece an elegant vintage patchwork effect.
A removable shelf has been made to provide flexibility in how you can use the main storage compartment. The simple shape and muted colour make this a great piece for fitting into a wide range of decorative schemes, both contemporary and period.
