Originating in the Dongbei Province of Northern China, this pine sideboard dates around 1920. It has been restored retaining the original painted motifs of flowers, fruit, birds and butterflies depicted as gold outlines against a background of rich russet colours. Typical of this Province, the main paintings are bordered with delicate geometric and natural motifs. This piece has been distinguished with brass hinge and handle plates to the doors.
A part of the restoration is the addition of a removable inner shelf, making the storage compartment more flexible. Four generous doors open into the compartment and it extends below the door openings, providing more space than is apparent. The rich warm colour with faded details make this a statement piece for the home.
We think the simple lines and good proportions of this piece make it a great fit for a modern interior as well as a more traditional one. These versatile cabinets are excellent as linen/towel closets, dining room sideboards or even in a studio/office as a stylish alternative for storage.
