This vintage cabinet comes from Tibet and dates from the 1920s. It has recently been reconditioned in an artisan workshop in Beijing using a traditional stain and varnish process, revealing the original patina of the wood. Simple in design yet the front of the cabinet features 11 intricately painted panels. Each panel depicts the head of a fire breathing dragon. The dragon is a positive and classic Tibetan mythological symbol of heaven, change, energy and wealth. It also heralds creative power and the strong male yang principle.
We think the stunning and intricate artwork on this cabinet makes it a feature piece to set off the right living or dining space. Equally, its storage and unique character make it the perfect hallway or entrance piece.
