International Women’s Day: Celebrating Our Stokey Women-Owned & Founded Favourites

International Women’s Day 2026 falls on 8th March, and we’re delighted to shine a light on some of the brilliant women-owned and founded businesses that make our corner of Hackney so special. We’re incredibly proud to be surrounded by such inspiring, community-minded women here in Stoke Newington.

First up is Early Bird on Church Street. Founded by our lovely friend Heidi, Early Bird has long been a pillar of the local community, supporting toy appeals, fundraisers and countless other initiatives. The shop is known for its beautifully designed greeting cards and wrapping paper, each with its own distinctive charm.

Recently, Heidi stepped down and passed the baton to Hannah, who we absolutely adore. If you’re nearby, do pop in to say hello and show your support.

Just down the road you’ll find Location Location, led by co-owner and Managing Director Vicky. Alongside running a fantastic estate agency, Vicky organises an annual toy appeal, supports the local food bank and is deeply involved in community initiatives. She also coordinates content for See You in Stokey, helping to spotlight the very best of our neighbourhood.

Then there’s The Local Buyers Club, co-founded by the brilliant Jenna. With four simple aims – generating trade for London’s best independent and small-chain businesses, strengthening community connections, saving members money and supporting projects that benefit those in need – it’s a powerful force for good.

Jenna also writes for See You in Stokey and helps organise local community initiatives like the toy appeal and Hackney Food Bank alongside Vicky of Location, Location.

Since 2017, Kitchen Provisions has been London’s go-to destination for premium Japanese knives and kitchen tools. What began in Stoke Newington has grown to three locations across the capital, each staffed by passionate specialists eager to share their expertise. Co-founder Helen also co-chairs See You in Stokey alongside Lei and generously volunteers her time handling grant applications to support local projects.

Sally Lacock Jewellery, another neighbour of ours, is a studio and practice inspired by cyclical botanical themes and the fragments left behind when nature exerts its influence over the living and manmade. She approaches her practice, striving for harmony and balance of design, tactility and longevity.

Finally, we’re also lucky to count Nadien K., a visible mending expert and old friend of Rouge, among our community. Nadien  runs beautiful darning and Sashiko workshops from our shop, as well as offers sewing supplies and repair kits to help people extend the life of their garments rather than throwing them away.

We’re so grateful to these incredible women, who not only run thriving businesses but also dedicate their time and energy to building community and championing sustainable practices locally.

This International Women’s Day, let’s make a conscious effort to uplift and support women’s businesses in London and beyond.
