This ceramic mortar and wooden pestle are made in Shimane prefecture Japan.
The handworked scored interior surface of the mortar makes this perfect for grinding spices and making garlic and herbs into pastes. These are from Motoshige, a specialised maker of Japanese mortars and graters.
The mortar bowl measures 14.5cm in diameter and is 8.5cm high. The pestle is 18cm long.
The bowl has a wide bottom with non slip silicon rubber for stability.
